Granola Bars.

I got a version of this recipe from my homemade-loving sister-in-law. I love that I know everything that goes into this recipe; there’s no hidden sugar, trans fats, or other surprises! This packs a pretty protein-y punch, perfect for those days when you don’t have time to make breakfast or pack a snack.


3 c oats

1/2 c wheat germ or ground flax seed

3/4 c flour or ground oats

1/2 c brown sugar

1/2 c walnuts

1/2 c dried cranberries

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp salt

1 c natural peanut or almond butter

1 c unsweetened applesauce

1/2 c honey


In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, wheat germ/flax, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, stir together remaining ingredients. Make a “well” in the center of the oat mixture; pour wet ingredients into well and stir together until just combined. Grease a large (13×9″) pan with butter and press mixture firmly into pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Allow to cool, then cut into bars. I recommend freezing half the batch!
